Blogging and SEO|Freelancing Tips

If you have decided that as a freelancing professional you are going to start your own blog, you need to make sure that you understand search engine optimization (SEO).  There are countless ways that you can optimize your freelancing blog and still make it valuable to your readers, while making it search engine friendly.

Keyword Density – It is generally accepted that keyword density should be 3% to 5% of your overall message. However, all too often you’ll see bloggers cramming keywords into their blog posts. Freelancing professionals need to understand the difference between proper optimization techniques and “keyword stuffing” as they make a difference in the quality of your work.  In order to maintain your credibility as a freelancing professional, it is highly recommended that you not create content that is so full of keywords that it makes it sound faked or turns your content into just words on a page.

Keyword Tools – Perhaps one of the most effective keyword tools for freelancing professionals is the Google Wonder Wheel.  This free and easy to use tool can help freelancing professionals identify key words that can help them write an effective blog post or article that makes sense and provides value to their readers.  The wonder wheel can help you identify both long and short keywords that will help you create more effective blog posts.

SEO Marketing – Freelancers who blog can gain a significant readership if they market their blogs and use SEO Marketing techniques. This includes using relevant keywords in your social bookmarking and social networking program. Like writing a blog post, the overuse of keywords can have a detrimental effect on your SEO efforts. Use keywords properly and above all else do not use keywords to mislead your potential audience. A great example of this is if your blog post is about freelancing tips and you see that “sports greats” are a “trending topic” and you use “sports greats” for a keyword in your social media.  This should never be done as it does cost you credibility.

Summary

There is no doubt that effective use of search engine optimization techniques can help you gain readers, make it easier for search engines to find you and provide a boost to your earnings. Freelancing professionals must ensure that they are using search engine optimization techniques effectively to ensure they do not damage their freelancing credentials.
