Freelancing using Twitter

Today, Twitter should be a part of every freelancing toolbox! Not only is Twitter useful for those who are interested in marketing, it’s also important to help in improving your online reputation. Many freelance writers start out writing their own blogs or joining article writing sites like Helium to launch their careers. This is a great way to develop an instant portfolio of work and to get your name out. However, if you do not have anyone reading your work, it is hardly likely that you will get any attention at all. Here are some tips for using Twitter for your freelancing career:

A) Tweet your posts and articles – The first thing you can do is set up Twitter so that all of your articles and posts are being sent to Twitter automatically. Use popular Twitter tools to start sending your articles and blog posts into your Twitter feed as your portfolio builds up.

B) Search for users - One of the best ways to target users on Twitter is by using the built in feed option. You can search using keywords (using a Hashmark (#) before the keyword) for interesting users. For instance, a search of #Freelancing will turn up a number of results including freelancing websites looking for freelance providers.

C) Be involved – Do not set your Twitter account up for automated pings and then forget about it. There are a lot of problems with Twitter including scammers and spammers. Don’t be considered a spammer. Watch out for scammers.  Log into your Twitter account and find out what is going on in your stream!  Find worthy tweets, read them and retweet them with your own commentary (within the 140 character limitation).

D) Promote others – Do not just promote your own work, promote the work of other writers, freelancers and more! If you have an online portfolio on a blog, a website, etc., make sure you include it in your Twitter stream.  If you see surveys, questions or other opportunities for interaction – take advantage of them. Remember, the more involved you are, the more likely you are to have successful interactions on Twitter (and other social networking sites).

Summary

Twitter can be a great source of not only freelancing opportunities but it is also a great marketing tool for your website or blog. Get involved with Twitter and promote your freelancing business.
