We have all been in the position of whining about low rates, non paying clients, slow paying clients and crappy clients. However, freelance writers do have options. If you are one of the thousands of freelance writers who is simply tired of searching out new clients, tired of the same blogs day after day, perhaps it’s time that you put some time and energy into exploring other options.
Do not get me wrong. If you are happy doing what you are doing, then please continue doing it! This is for those freelancers who wish to break the binds that are often associated with client work, and those binds that can turn an otherwise enjoyable task into sheer drudgery. Most freelance writers not only write for money but they write because they enjoy writing. Instead of letting clients dictate your writing parameters, why not consider breaking out of your comfort zone and explore other opportunities that are available to you. Some will give you more creative license than others, and this doesn’t mean you won’t be working under deadlines. However, what it does mean is that you may wind up making more money from your own ventures than you are making from clients.
The fact of the matter is that unless you have private clients and are being paid very well, you are most likely scrambling around looking for that next “big” gig. This isn’t all bad, and if you can keep a steady source of income flowing, then you may want to stick with it. However, if you are between clients and you are struggling a bit and have time on your hands, perhaps you should consider some alternative money making options.
I’m not going to bore you to tears rewriting stuff that I’ve already written. Instead, I’m going to provide you with some links to other blog posts that I have written that can help you explore other money making methods that work. If you are considering breaking out of the “client trap” or perhaps you are for the first time getting serious about your writing career, here are some posts that can help point you in the right direction. I hope that you find them helpful. Each of these methods is tried, tested and works. Remember, this is like anything else. If you don’t put the time and effort into these methods you will fail.
