Squidoo is a fascinating revenue sharing site that allows those who are interested in writing to explore not only their writing ability but also their creativity. Squidoo calls their writers “lensmasters” and the pages they create “lenses”. Squidoo suggests that people use these lenses for self promotion! Something you tend not to see very often.
Signing up at Squidoo
Signing up is simple. Simply go to Squidoo’s home page and register with your email address and password of your choice. It probably is not a bad idea to fill in a biography and add a photo while you are there. This is especially necessary if you are planning on using Squidoo for promotion purposes, you want people to be able to find you.
While you are at Squidoo (after registering) you may want to take some time to browse around the site. I’ll be honest about this, I signed up at Squidoo more than 3 years ago, and at one time had nearly 100 lenses. Today, my “dashboard” is pitiful looking as I’ve since removed most of my original lenses (which were not so good!). Clearly I need to get moving and add to the few lenses I have there!
What’s nice about Squidoo
Not only are the Squidoo lenses fun to build, they are not complicated to build either. The lens wizard can help you create a perfect lens on any topic of your choice. Simply click on the “build a lens” button and you are on your way. Users should take a look at the optional revenue modules including Amazon, Ebay and several others. For those who have an Amazon Affiliate id (or other affiliate ID’s) you can include these in your profile to earn more from your lenses.
What you can write about
Squidoo allows writers fairly free rein over what they can and cannot write about. Clearly hate lenses, etc. are banned but if you are passionate about something, you can write about it. At one time, Squidoo did allow adult content but they no longer accept anything that is rated more strongly than “R” rating. Categories include Internet, Technology, Games, Pets, Recipes, and more. If you want to write about it, chances are there is a category that it will fit into.
How you earn money
On Squidoo you can earn money in several ways. You can earn from AdSense revenue, inline links (that can be turned off or on based on your preferences) and from various affiliate programs. Squidoo pays earnings to your PayPal account at levels set by you from $1 up to other (ridiculous!) amounts. You control when you are paid from your writer dashboard.
Because I have cleared all of my prior lenses out and started from scratch (and my writing is much better today than it was three years ago), it is hard to tell you what earnings are possible on Squidoo. What I can tell you is that in prior times I’ve earned a fair amount of money from the lenses that I posted there. It is worth signing up with Squidoo if you wish to explore your creative side, promote your blog or articles and earn a bit of money while you are doing these things!
