It has been nearly 40 days since I created a post on this site! Yes, 40 days! Of course, I could hide behind some very basic truths including:
- I took a one month vacation (Yes, a whole month!)
- It’s summertime (it is in fact almost over)
- I’ve been busy (not so much)
The fact of the matter is I have had absolutely NO motivation to write anything. Every day it is more and more depressing to read forums full of comments about people complaining about the rates they are paid for writing, how hard it is to find new work and people who insist that writers who write content online are overpaid lackeys who deserve nothing. It’s stunning.
I have to get back to work!
The biggest problem with all this lack of motivation is that the longer it goes on, the less focus I have and the less I want to write! With that in mind, I decided to revisit my goals for the year. First I needed to review the original goals and see what I had to say in January – here’s what I found: At the beginning of the year my goals were as follows:
- Writer Access 2-5 weekly (8-20 a month)
- Textbroker – 2-3 daily (60 – 90 a month)
- Skyword – 1-3 monthly
- Microtasks (pay for an ebook)
- Helium – 1 a month
The reality is a lot sadder than this! In fact, I am no longer writing at Textbroker (couldn’t take the headache any more) and Skyword Bounty Program does not exist any longer so I can’t go there either. So that leaves me with Writer Access, Microtasks and Helium. However, one thing that is NOT on the list is BlogMutt which I have been seriously neglecting since my record report in March of more than sixty articles for the month. Also, since Helium is undergoing a site change, chances are I will work on improving existing content and not submitting any new articles for the time being.
With this in mind, I decided I needed to get myself ready for September and here’s what I have come up with for my “modified” goals for the rest of the year (and yes, I completely blew June, July and August goals so let’s not go there!):
- Writer Access – I am going to leave this one at 2-5 weekly; the simple reason is I’m so picky about my work
- Blogmutt – Beginning on September 1 I am going to shoot for 2 pieces every day. I have to do this to fill in the gaps left by Skyword and Textbroker and to start getting some regular cash flow again!
The good news is that I have a client who is requesting 20 posts a month every month and I am keeping up with his work. However, I always find myself getting to the end of the month and rushing to do these posts in the last two or three days. Not in September. I plan to do at least one for him daily.
I do plan on keeping up with the microtasks on Amazon Mechanical Turk because I can do those “in between” other work. So, cross your fingers and lets hope I can stay on track for September. I have to do this for myself or I may just stop altogether and that will not do me any good.
Check back in a month and watch what happens!
