There is a stunning lack of knowledge among freelance writers who write for content farms. Yes, I called them content farms because that is what they are. It is irrelevant what site you write for, they are all content farms. The “real” definition of a content farm is a site that invites writers to submit content for either upfront payments or ongoing revenue. Unless 100% of your revenue as a freelance writer is for private clients who request specific content for their sites, as I said back in March, chances are that you’re writing for a content farm.
There is however a disturbing trend on these sites – one that continues to baffle me. Some of these freelance writers seem to expect the management of these sites to treat them like “employees”. When you go to nearly any forum on these sites, you are going to see someone use the word “job” at least once. Don’t believe me? Check them out! Just go to the forums and search the word “job” and chances are that you’re going to find a fair number of people talking about how poorly they are being paid for the “job” the site is asking them to [...]

Are you tired of the belly-aching that goes on? Those who don’t read (or understand) the Terms of Service on various websites, annoyed because you thought you had gained all this traffic and lo and behold it is almost always spam? The “something for nothing” crowd? Do I have to keep going? You get the picture! Follow me!
Terms of Service Matter!
Whining doesn’t help
Terms of Service violations irritate me. They irritate me because most of the time people have not bothered to read them. I am not talking about people who just casually pop onto a website to purchase a single item and don’t read the TOS (though they should), I’m talking about professionals (supposedly) who one, two or more months after the fact scream and yell about something in the terms of service of a website irritate them (or catch up with them).
The terms of service are not placed on a website to fill up pages or to ensure a site ranks in Google folks, they are put there for a reason – because they GOVERN your action on that website. If you are not going to take the time to read them (wahhhhhhhhhh they are so long) then don’t [...]

Until recently, I have avoided naming or calling out any specific business entities outside of doing reviews of specific writing sites which many of you have read, emailed me about and even pursued. Recently I did a “scam alert” post primarily because I was getting fed up to my eyeballs after receiving numerous emails in a week from this dishonest person. However, today I’m posting here because I want to offer thanks and kudos for a company that exceeded my expectations!
Some of you may be aware that I’m a great believer in Private Label Rights articles. I don’t generally use them in their entirety, instead I use them to craft other articles, I rewrite them and generally use them as the basis for topics I’m not 100% sure about. While many of them are poorly written, they do sometimes offer great insight into great keywords, good titles and other valuable information. I’ve written extensively about some of the uses of Private Label Rights articles and guides, and I’ve been known to buy hundreds of them. My expectations are not particularly high, I understand it’s like buying a pig in a poke sometimes.
Recently, I found some packages of PLRs that were [...]

It is really easy to get going for the new year without setting up any definitive plans for the new year. After all, freelancing is all about having the freedom to pursue whatever work comes that is attractive. This might be a plan that will work out, but for most freelance writers, it is probably not the best plan in the world. Setting up firm writing plans have some positive effects on the way that a freelancer approaches what they do. Here are some of the reasons why writing plans matter.
Writing plans matter for income
Writing plans matter because if a freelancer does not have plans in place, they will be far more likely to fall short of their earnings goals. If a freelance writer has no plan to set up their earnings (on at least a monthly basis) they are far more likely to waste time (figuring they have time to make it up). Income levels are hard enough to maintain as a freelance writer without starting off set up for failure.
Writing plans matter for goal setting
Goal setting and risk taking are part of freelancing. While some freelance writers do not like to take risks, if a freelance writing plan [...]
