Freelancing Rate Wars – Everyone loses
If you look up the dictionary description of “Freelance” what you will find is this “work independently and on temporary contracts rather than for a long-term employer“. Digging a bit further you will find that “Independently” means “Not determined or influenced by someone or something else; not contingent“. A “Marketplace” is defined as “the world of commercial activity where goods and services are bought and sold“. Going further, “Bid” is defined as … Read entire article »

Time Management for freelancers
All too often those who run their own businesses get up in the morning with high intentions of getting completely through their “to do” list only to get to late afternoon/early evening only to discover they have accomplished far less than they intended. Setting the bar higher for yourself
Freelancers of course answer to their clients, but they also answer to themselves. It is critically important that we set a level of expectations for ourselves at all times. We must not only be willing to make mistakes, but also be willing to accept responsibility for those mistakes, and learn to grow from those mistakes. Willingness to continue learning, understanding we do not know everything and being able to help others learn from those mistakes … Read entire article »

Breaking out of your comfort zone
One of the challenges that many freelancers face is breaking out of their comfort zone. This is especially true for freelancers who depend on Freelance Marketplaces for their work. It’s really easy to fall into the trap of not being willing to expand your horizons and do work that isn’t through a freelance site. (Disclaimer: I do some work through oDesk). Giving up on RedGage and here is why
RedGage has promoted themselves as a content site where you can make additional money off content you place in other websites. The link uploads are so stale they are not even funny – for instance there is at least one “featured” link that has been on the board since I joined more than three months ago – it’s earned a whopping 2.42 with over 400 page views. Why bother? B) The site isn’t particularly user friendly – I know that every website goes through … Read entire article »

However, residual income does come with a price tag of time. It’s great to see earnings grow from being paid up front payments on articles that you submit to various article sites, but also through the longer lasting page views that are involved. Let us take a look at what some of these residual … Read entire article »

People must think that blog owners are stupid – or even worse. In less than 24 hours I had 147 brand new blog comments! Oh MY!
